This week for my WLE project i focused on getting the information i needed to really get started. I brought together all of the lessons I have created within the wednesdays i have been here and typed them up so that i have a visual on what i have prepared. Also I talkd with my mentor about what would possibly be the best idea to do for the overall project. Next I laid out my plan for the WLE project, which is to have a slideshow of the work we do in the mornings, which will show that we work on the larger aspects that will impact our future. Also I was wanting to have a group of impact girls come in to girls inc and do the trainning lessons I have created and video tape them.
My plan for the full project is to start today by rounding up a group of girls that can possibly help us set up thius video taping of the lesson. Other than that I am covered with the materials needed.

As of right now i am on track to getting my 100 hours. currently i have 80 hours.
Today as usual, we had our work place training first thing in the morning. after that we had our fitness challenge trainning which contained trainning skills from the previous trainnings we had at gilrs inc. next we broke off for lunch and relaxed from the challenge which was really tough. Then I went out to Wilson Elementary to finish up the second football session with 8 forth grade girls.
This was very fun because I was able to help the girls with some football drills, and practice throwing and catching the football. They were very accepting and willing to learn a new sport. My fellow intern and I opened the check in, which is usually, your name, how your doing, and what do you want to learn today? The girls were having a lot of fun running into my partner and trying to get away from me. Finally after a long day of football, we came back to Girls Inc. and helped in the Bodies In Motion workout involving two Girls Inc. participates.

At about 10:20am I arrived at girls Inc. We wait until about 10:45 and then we get started our first training of the day, which is called workplace training, in this training we reviewed the importance of short and long term thinking that can effect out daily life with school, home, or at a job envionment. I realized that both the long and short term goals have an equal amount of importance in my everyday life. The second training was about flexibility, and we learned different stretches that helped us to expand our own flexibility, while at the same time break a sweat. After each trainning we debreef on the two trainnings and how we feel they went. then break off for lunch which is from 12:35 to 1:15.
Next, three of the girls go off into their groups in head off to their sites. Then I and my partner who is also a impact student went to an elementary school called Wilson and worked with the group W.O.W. With the group leader, Jenny, I helped and participated in a football lesson for 4th graders. There were obstacle courses, throwing drills, and a running exercise that would get the girls excited and pumpt to want to work out. It was tons of fun.

At my internship, i work with a medium size group in the whole Girl Inc organization. It about 20 group leaders who run each program at each different site at different school in the bay area. Going to Girls Inc it always fun when your invloved in the programs and the activities with the girls. I love working with such a small group because its a lot more more going on in a sence. Theres always something to do at girls inc whether its helping facititate a fittness lesson with the bodies in motion group or just as simple as reorganizing closets.
In girls inc there is deffently a chain of command within each group. In my group, the bottom is all of the group leaders which are the leaders that go out to the sites everyday. Next is the head quardenater which is Rosie, my mentor, who over sees everything and is the key eye for everythng that each leader does with each group. finally its the manager who is in chjarge of all the groups in girls inc. In my eyes of an intern, I feel that everyone is happy with the way the chain of command is going. This enviornment of proffessionalism has made me realize the importance of college. Without it, its going to be hard to go on the path to do what your passion is.

Ive recently read the blogs of Julie Grant, Stephani, Amy, and Thomas. They all were very interesting to read and to get a chance to see what their doing for their WLE. I think that Julie Grant is writing the best blogs. Each of them are well thought out and have a sense of personalization to it, as if she is telling you face to face. i loved how she uses details and explains everything very well and complete. She follows the prompt to a T. She has some small grammar errors, but other than that, its perfect. She makes me want to take more time and focus on creating my blog. So that I can give the full affect of my intership.
It seems like I am learning a lot more at my WLE because theres always many skill that are being taught to us each day, I am continuously learning new things and gaining more information about how to be a better person and to be better at being more proffessional. My internship is still interesting because I am staying involved of everything that is happening in the Fitness Center. If I ever feel like I hve too mnuch down time (free time to do whatever), i beging to either work out freely, or ask for any assistence with things they may need.

Post 6: out sick
Unfortunately I was not able to attend my internship at girls inc because I was very sick and also was out of school for two days. In my own mind, I felt that I was up for going in to my internship, but my mentor and mother felt differently. They felt that by me being sick, there's a higher risk of me getting worst or getting one of the little girls I work with sick. That was the last thing that I would want to do. So my day basically consisted of me being in bed and trying to get better for the week after. While at home I began to do homework, cleaning and sleeping. I was able to get a head start on my art book and to get a little bit more organized.
The way I notified my mentor that I was not going to be coming in was that I sent her a email and I had a friend, who is also in my internship, tell her that I am sorry that I could not make it and that I was very sorry.

when walking into my internship on Feb.3, the first thing that would probably be going through my mentors mind was, wow shes early and has a positive attitude. My mentor Rosie, loves people with positive attitudes and are willing to come in and work without complaining. I think the things that impressed my mentor are that I was able to be focused and participate in the activities, while I was really sore from my basketball game the night before. I think that my need to never give up and give my all really impressed her throughout the day. I am never the one to sit and observe something that i should be doing. i must get involved and do my part so that i feel good about the work that has been done.
i don't believe that there was anything that she was not impressed with. If there was anything, i know she would have spoke up and spoke her mind about, because she speaks freely about how she feels. During this internship i think that my mentor would want to learn many things about me, such as how to interact with the little girls in a different manner, a new planning process of workout plans, and also to learn the strength that I have to get up every Wednesday after a hard game and go through the day with non-stop hard work because that is what my mind is telling me to do. The stories i think Rosie would have about me to tell to her family and friends are that im always laughing and dancing throughout the fitness workouts. I love making workouts fun and exciting so that they don't seem boring or hard. Rosie would probably say I have made it into her journal more than once for my random moments. Also that I have made a big impact on some of the girls in program in such a way they feel comfortable talking to me and working with me each week.

Today at my internship i really feel as if this was the perfect choice because its what i needed. i place to work out while helping the community stay healthy and educate young girls about being healthy. Throughout the day i began to see what goes into making Girls Inc run effectively. its a lot of work and focus with organization. i was able to be taught how to plan a full body work out for one of the girls that we train from 4 to 5. Ive learned a lot about time management, effective communication, and also collaboration. For example, when someone calls in sick, my mentor has to re-work the plans and plan around the program of the person out sick.
Within the next few weeks I hope to learn more about the girls inc business and see how this program will run in the future. i love girls inc because it gives me a purpose to do good and help out with the youth, which i love to do.

Post 2: I love girls inc.
On my first day at my internship I headed to the Girls Inc building at 10:30 am. The first part of the day we had a meeting about what we were going to be doing throughout the day. After the meeting each of the groups, which were Julie grant. Amy, Stephanie, and Reanna, would go out to the sites at different elementary school in Oakland. My group was with Julie and we both went to a school called parker elementary. Once we got to the school we set up a sports game, which was soccer, for the 5th graders to play. We all played soccer and it was a very good start to the internship.
I feel that I did very well with the children today. It was fun because they were easier to connect to and get good feedback. I think I gave my mentors a good impression of me because they never knew how great I was with kids. While doing the activity with my partner Julie, we had a lot of down time within the transitions and the breaks in between the programs. For the most part I had a great first official day at Girls Inc.

Post 1: Job Shadow day Jan. 6th
i was at my internship on January 6th at 11:40am until 5:30 (5 and a half hours). I took Bart and one bus to get to my internship on time. my internship is very laid back and fun because i am surrounded by people that i love and have meet throughout the past two years. its interesting to see what actually goes into this program. in the beginning of the day i was filled with excitement and joy because i didn't know what to expect. my mentors name is Rosie, who is one of the head leaders of the organization Girls Inc. There are many different locations around the bay for Girls inc, thankfully this local girls inc is in san leandro which is very close to to San leandro and bay fair Bart. i will be helping many different directors within girls inc with running girls inc programsn with the little kids that are in the bay area such as oakland and hayward. i was able to get this internship through my girls inc leaders jenny and rosie because they felt that i would do a great job with kids.
